Data licensing

Where card skimmers are actually found, for insurers and fraud teams.

SkimGuard records every card reader check: what was found, where and when. Insurers, card issuers, payment networks and researchers license that data to see where skimmers are turning up, alongside the claims and dispute data they already have.

For insurers

A clearer view of skimming risk.

Card skimming losses show up in claims long after the skimmer went in. SkimGuard data shows where skimmers have actually been found, and which locations check their readers.

Underwriting

See whether skimmers have been found at or near a merchant, fuel retailer or ATM operator you're assessing.

Claims review

Compare a location's alert history with the dates on a card fraud claim.

Risk by area

Compare skimmer activity by state and metro area over time.

Helping policyholders

Point the businesses you cover to a simple daily check they can run on their own readers, at skimguard.io/for-business.

What the data is

Checks at the reader, not guesses from transactions.

Each time someone checks a card reader with SkimGuard, the result, place, time and confidence are recorded. Checks come from shoppers using the free app and from businesses checking their own readers with the phones and handhelds they already have. They come from anywhere people pay: gas stations and ATMs, and also bars, restaurants, stadiums and festivals, which transaction data often misses.

Recorded at the reader

Records come from actual checks at the card reader, not estimates built from transaction records.

Mapped

Every record is tied to a small map area and a stable SkimGuard location ID, separate from other companies' place IDs.

Confirmed

Business checks are confirmed to be at the location before they're added.

🏠
Privacy first. Checks at people's homes are never shared, and shopper checks are anonymous.

Your own portal

Every licensee gets a sign-in at data.skimguard.io for downloads, API keys and usage.

Every license is agreed directly and priced by the area covered, the files or lookups you need, and how you'll use them. Every license includes a data-use agreement, an NDA and a clear list of permitted uses.
