What SkimGuard is.
Short description (about 45 words)
SkimGuard checks card readers for hidden skimmers. Shoppers use a free app on iPhone and Android to check a gas pump, ATM or checkout before they pay. Stores use it on the Android phones and handhelds stores already have to check every reader each day and keep a simple inspection log.
Long description (about 120 words)
SkimGuard, Inc. makes an app that checks card readers for hidden skimmers. Many skimmers send stolen card data over a wireless signal. SkimGuard listens for that signal and warns the person holding the phone. Shoppers get the app free on iPhone and Android. Stores, gas stations and other businesses use it on the Android phones and handhelds stores already have, with no new equipment. Staff check each reader in about 30 seconds, and every check is saved in a time-stamped inspection log. Stores that check their readers show a Protected pin on the public map at map.skimguard.io. Store plans start at $25 a month per location. The app also works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SkimGuard was founded in 2026 and is based in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Joe Gilkey, Founder and CEO
Before SkimGuard, Joe spent five years as Head of IT at King Kullen Grocery, a regional grocery chain with 25+ stores, where he looked after the card readers and payment security across the chain. Earlier, he was Principal Engineer at NAPCO Security Technologies and Senior Engineer at Clever Devices and at Clear. He built SkimGuard on his own, so any store and any shopper can check a card reader simply.
